Located within Kensington Public School grounds, KPSOOSH Care provides a safe, familiar, purpose-built child-friendly environment in which children can both plan and spontaneously enjoy play and leisure at the end of the school day.
Children signed in to OOSH for the afternoon go to their designated areas for roll call. Kindergarten kids go to the OOSH room, 1-2 to the Hall and 3-6 to the Cola.
Children are encouraged to join activities by year group in each hub, play outside, join a club or do a sport. From 3:15pm onwards children also get called to the OOSH room by years to get afternoon tea.
Children pack up their afternoon activities and get directed to the Hall for a roll call of all year groups.
After roll call, kids can continue to play in the Cola, Green Court or Quiet Hub until the closing time of 6:15pm.
At after school care children are provided with a range of stimulating planned experiences that align with My Time Our Place Learning Outcomes, including art and craft, cooking, sport and gross motor activities, drama and music, multicultural and community experiences. Children are additionally supported to engage in freely chosen to play and leisure activities. (See Activities here).
Children in kindergarten will be collected by KPS OOSH educators at their class pick up area for term 1. All kindergarten children will be given a yellow wristband by their teachers saying, “I am going to KPS OOSH today!”. In the first term of school, kindergarten students will be signed-in and enjoy afternoon tea time together indoors until they feel comfortable enough to join the other OOSH kids outside for the remainder of the afternoon. All the kindergarten children are shown the routine, rules, boundaries, and programmed activities at aftercare, and educators are constantly checking on them in-case there is any confusion or uncertainty. All other new children will be shown around during the afternoon and given an educator or student buddy to show them the afternoon routine, rules, boundaries, and activities until they are settled in.
In short, breakfast, afternoon tea, and a late snack. The menu for each week is planned by our Master Chef, Rhonda. Breakfast is provided for any and all children who attend Before School Care before 8:30am. There are two “specials” each week which can include foods such as pancakes, banana smoothies, hash browns, banana bread, omelets or porridge!
The afternoon tea menu changes weekly and is displayed on the family notice boards both inside and outside the centre. Examples of food served for afternoon tea include tacos, salad rolls and pasta. Fruit and vegetables are also served with afternoon tea. At 5:00 pm following a second roll call children are offered a snack of seasonal fruit and vegetables.
At KPSOOSH, we have a variety of clubs running every afternoon for your child to choose from! The clubs and Incursions change each term, based on family, children and educator’s interests and curiosities. We also run year specific hubs for children to socialise amongst their peers, engage in play and participate in the programmed activity.
In Term 4 2025 we have the following Clubs and Incursions:
