KPSOOSH Highlights

Gardening Club

The Gardening Club, which began last term under the guidance of our wonderful chef and educator Rhonda, has quickly blossomed into a favorite activity for many children. With a focus on hands-on learning and environmental care, the club allows children to plant, nurture, and harvest a variety of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Through this initiative, they’ve learned about sustainability, teamwork, and the joy of watching their hard work grow.

Our OSHC centre offers a Jiu Jitsu program in collaboration with  Sensei Carmen. This program focuses on teaching children valuable self-defence skills, while also promoting respect for themselves and others. Through the guidance of Sensei Carmen, children build confidence, develop physical and mental strength, and explore an interest they might not have had access to otherwise. As they progress through the different belt levels, children not only improve their skills but also learn the importance of perseverance and goal-setting. Aligned with the My Time, Our Place (MTOP) v2 principles, the program encourages children’s sense of identity, well-being, and engagement, while fostering positive relationships and a growth mindset

Our OSHC centre is committed to fostering reconciliation and inclusivity through the development and implementation of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). We are engaging with the broader community, seeking external advice, and incorporating feedback from children, families, and staff to ensure that our plan reflects diverse perspectives and is meaningful. By aligning with the My Time, Our Place (MTOP) v2 principles, we focus on promoting cultural competence, building respectful relationships, and encouraging children’s sense of identity and belonging. Through targeted training and consultation, we aim to create a supportive, inclusive environment where all cultures are celebrated and respected.

At our OSHC centre, we’re excited to be working on a unique project to develop a Philosophy video with the children. Led by Nate, one of our talented film student educators, the children are actively participating in planning, filming, and editing a video that explores the question, “What is KPSOOSH to you?” Through interviews with educators, students, teachers, and parents, the children will gain the opportunity to express their thoughts and reflect on what makes our centre special. This project encourages creativity, communication, and collaboration, aligning with the My Time, Our Place (MTOP) v2 principles by supporting children’s sense of identity, well-being, and involvement. It also fosters respectful relationships and engagement, empowering children to have a voice in how they shape and contribute to the community around them.

At our OSHC centre, we’re bringing the community together through the universal language of food! With the guidance of our passionate educator, Farkhanda, we’ve embarked on a special project to create a community cookbook. This initiative celebrates the diverse cultures, traditions, and stories within our community.

Farkhanda has been consulting with children, teachers, families, and educators to collect recipes that hold a special place in their hearts. Families have generously shared their time, coming into the centre to cook alongside the children and tell the stories behind their recipes—whether it’s a dish passed down through generations or one that brings comfort and joy.

Aligned with the My Time, Our Place (MTOP) framework, this project reflects the principles of respect for diversity, collaborative partnerships, and connectedness to the broader world. Children are encouraged to appreciate the unique contributions of others, build meaningful relationships, and develop a sense of belonging as they explore the cultural richness of our community.

Together, we’re creating more than just a cookbook—we’re creating a shared legacy of love, learning, and delicious memories!

At KPSOOSH, we’re growing a culture of continuous improvement and critical reflection with our vibrant Philosotree—a thoughtful display created by our dedicated Wellbeing Coordinator, Amira. The Philosotree showcases the seven quality areas of the National Quality Framework (NQF), visually representing our commitment to providing exceptional care and education.

Rooted in the principles of My Time, Our Place (MTOP) v2, the Philosotree embodies practices such as ongoing learning, respect for diversity, and collaborative partnerships. It serves as a daily reminder of how our team reflects critically, sets goals, and works together to nurture a sense of belonging, being, and becoming for every child in our care.

Through this inspiring display, we’re empowering our community—educators, children, and families alike—to engage with our philosophy and see the meaningful ways we strive to provide a safe, inclusive, and enriching environment. Our Philosotree is not just a symbol of growth but a testament to our shared journey toward excellence.
